BMSB SEASON 2026/27
20/8/2026
NEWSFLASH: BMSB SEASON 2026/27 IS HERE – ARE YOU READY?
Protecting Australia's Borders Starts Before Your Cargo Ships
The Australian Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry (DAFF) has confirmed that Brown Marmorated Stink Bug (BMSB) seasonal measures will again apply to selected imports arriving in Australia during the 2026/27 season.
BMSB is a significant biosecurity threat to Australia's agriculture and environment. To minimise the risk, mandatory measures apply to certain goods manufactured in or shipped from identified risk countries.
Important Dates
Season: 1 September 2026 to 30 April 2027
The key date is the"Shipped on Board" date shown on the Ocean Bill of Lading, not the cargo gate-in or packing date.
What Importers Need to Know
- Certain high-risk goods may require mandatory treatment before entering Australia.
- Cargo originating from or transhipping through target risk countries may be subject to additional biosecurity controls.
- Non-compliant shipments may experience significant delays, additional costs, directed treatment, or export orders.
- Early planning is essential, particularly for machinery, industrial equipment, project cargo, vehicles, construction materials and other high-risk commodities.
What's New This Season?
DAFF has announced several updates for the 2026/27 season, including:
- New approved onshore treatment option: Ethyl Formate
- Removal of the BMSB Safeguarding Scheme
- Removal of the Rolled Goods Policy
These changes increase the importance of ensuring cargo is correctly assessed and treated before shipment.
